Fresh news has emerged on follow-up series Code Geass: Z of the Recapture, three years after its first announcement in 2020.
Anime watchers from the early 2000s will agree that the Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion is one of the most followed sci-fi anime. It was only expected, then, that the reveal of Code Geass: Z of the Recapture would spark plenty of hype in the fandom.
As details about the show faded into silence, however, excitement started to wane, with fans left in suspense regarding its fate. Now, hope is in the air.
A recent announcement on Code Geass‘s official website has reignited hope about the series. On 1 December, it was revealed that during Lelouch Lamperouge’s 15th birthday celebratory screening on 18 December, a special production presentation for Code Geass: Z of the Recapture will be aired.
Held at Shinjuku Wald 9 movie theater, the event will welcome Lelouch’s voice actor Fukuyama Jun (Assasination Classroom) and producer Taniguchi Hirojiro (Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans) as featured speakers, joined by undisclosed guests. The presentation will also be available as a paid livestream, with specific details to be unveiled later.
While it’s unclear what the update entails, the release schedule for the series will likely be announced, hopefully alongside a sneak peek.
The plot of Code Geass: Z of the Recapture is also still undisclosed, though speculation suggests it will serve as the anime’s third season, set in a distinct timeline from the original Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2.
Director Ohashi Yoshimitsu (Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans) from the original series will be heading the project at Sunrise Studios. He is joined by producers including Morotomi Hiroshi, Kawaguchi Yoshitaka (Accel World, Love Live: School Idol Project), Minegishi Takuo (Darker Than Black), and Yukawa Atsushi (Girls und Panzer der Film, Eureka Seven). Kimura Noboru (Solo Levelling, Kemono Jihen) will be writing the series.
