‘Cobra Kai’ Season 5 Brings Back Sean Kanan As ‘The Karate Kid’ Legacy Character

The fourth season of Netflix’s Cobra Kai ended on a few massive cliffhangers, creating plenty of speculations about the show’s next season. Thankfully, the newly released first-look images for the upcoming fifth season have confirmed one thing: a legacy character is coming back.

Sean Kanan is returning as Mike Barnes from The Karate Kid Part III. That’s right, the sadistic villain who Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) hired to terrorize Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) is back. And judging from the newly-released images, Barnes is going to be putting up a fight once more, though it is unclear where his loyalties lie at this point.

Also returning is Chozen Toguchi (Yuji Okumoto), the former rival and now unlikely friend of Daniel. The battle between the Miyagi-Do trained Chozen and No Mercy’s Terry is probably what fans are looking forward to the most this time around.

Cobra Kai season 5 will also introduce the series’ first female sensei, Alicia Hannah-Kim as Kim Da-Eun, a South Korean sensei affiliated with the Cobra Kai dojo, formerly owned by Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and now by Terry.

Tanner Buchanon and Xolo Maridueña reprise their roles as Robby Keene and Miguel Diaz respectively though they still don’t appear to be on friendly terms.

Other returning cast members include Jacob Bertrand as Eli ‘Hawk’ Moskowitz; Griffin Santopietro as Anthony LaRusso; Mary Mouser as Samantha LaRusso; Gianni DeCenzo as Dimitri; Vanessa Rubio as Carmen Diaz; Courtney Henggeler as Amanda LaRusso; and Joe Seo, Nathaniel Oh, Aedin Mincks, Khalil Everage, and Dallas Dupree Young.

Cobra Kai will return on 9 September 2022, with the debut of season five.
