Captain America And Black Panther Fight Nazis In ‘1943: Rise Of Hydra’ Video Game

Marvel Games and Skydance New Media revealed the first details and trailer for their highly anticipated World War II-era game 1943: Rise of Hydra at Epic Games’ State of Unreal keynote.

The narrative-driven action-adventure will allow players to take control of four central characters – a young Steve Rogers/Captain America, Azzuri (T’Challa’s grandfather and the WWII Black Panther), Gabriel Jones (a U.S. soldier in the Howling Commandos), and Nanali (a Wakandan spy in occupied Paris).

As the original story unfolds, this ensemble cast will square off against the rising threat of Hydra during the events of 1943. The trailer showcased gorgeous visuals powered by the latest Unreal Engine 5.4, providing a glimpse of the game’s take on the Marvel universe set in a pivotal era.

Key cast members were also announced, including Khary Payton as Azzuri/Black Panther, Drew Moerlein as Captain America, Megalyn Echikunwoke as Nanali, Marque Richardson as Gabriel Jones, Lyne Renée as French Resistance ally Julie, and Joel Johnstone as Howard Stark.

The title marks the first game from Skydance New Media, the studio founded and led by acclaimed writer/director Amy Hennig (Uncharted series) and EA veteran Julian Beak. In addition to ‘1943’, the studio is also developing an untitled Star Wars project. If the name Skydance sounds familiar, they are the production company behind blockbusters such as Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible.

Published by Marvel Games, 1943: Rise of Hydra is slated to launch in 2025 and represents one of Disney’s major forays into reviving its gaming efforts through partnerships with top developers like Insomniac, Ubisoft, Bethesda, and others.
