Activision has officially announced that the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be hitting shelves on 10 November 2023, maintaining the franchise’s customary fall release schedule.
The announcement was made in a tantalising teaser video that opens with green sound waves flickering on-screen amidst a backdrop of radio chatter. Suddenly, the sound waves morph from green to a psychedelic red void, offering a brief sighting of Captain Price and a snake’s waveform images. In a chilling voiceover, Captain Price warns, “Never bury your enemies alive,” revealing a silhouette believed to be the infamous antagonist, Vladimir Makarov.
Fans would recall Makarov from the original Modern Warfare trilogy, and his return was hinted at in the previous instalment’s post-credits scene. The clip then ends by revealing the title, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and its release date.
The chosen date aligns perfectly with the typical late October to early November release window of previous Call of Duty games. Intriguingly, this timing comes after the expected completion of Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, which could potentially make Modern Warfare 3 the first Call of Duty title released under Microsoft’s banner.
While we’ve been given the release date, more specific information about the game remains sparse. However, more news shouldn’t be far off. Though Activision hasn’t yet disclosed the platforms for Modern Warfare 3, it’s expected to be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and PC.
