Blizzard Kicks Off Overwatch Anniversary 2020 With Weekly Challenges, New Cosmetics

It’s been four years since Overwatch was brought to fruition, and the game has changed a lot since then. From the days of Mercy’s six-man res to the current 2-2-2 and hero ban picks, Blizzard Entertainment‘s shooter continues to be a subject of experimentation and tweaks. In celebration of its journey thus far, the company is bringing back the Anniversary event, with weekly challenges and new skins in tow.

The annual affair will last from now through 10 June 2020, and will mark the return of all previous seasonal brawls, including the popular Halloween-themed Junkenstein’s Revenge, and the lore-focused Archives trio: Uprising, Storm Rising, and Retribution. True to the Overwatch event tradition, Anniversary 2020 will also see new skins, player icons, emotes, and sprays. Three of the characters skins are Epic, with the Legendary picks as follows:

  • Masquerade Reaper
  • Huitzilopochtli Zenyatta
  • Little Red Ashe
  • Submarine Wrecking Ball
  • Dragoon Mercy

But the lootbox grind can get rather tedious at times, and here’s where the Weekly Challenges reward all that effort. As with the previous events, winning nine games in any mode will yield players event-specific player icons, sprays, and Epic skins for the corresponding week: Carbon Fiber Sigma (Week 1), Fleur de Lis Widowmaker (Week 2), and Masked Man McCree (Week 3).

Overwatch Anniversary 2020 is already live on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. Since its inception, the event has remained one of the most anticipated releases, with the PvE modes serving as a good, enjoyable alternative to the often toxic and exhausting player interaction in both Quick and Competitive Play. Shooting bots with great company? Now, that’s the life.

Happy Anniversary, Overwatch!
