What’s an ‘It‘ series without the appearance of Pennywise? While Pennywise actor Bill Skarsgård previously said he wouldn’t return for the prequel series, he can’t pull away from it forever, as the actor confirmed his return in Welcome to Derry.
A brief teaser was released in late 2023, which gave viewers a glimpse into the series’ plot: a new group of teenagers encounter Pennywise with its signature balloon, as Derry is plunged into terror and chaos. Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, Taylour Paige, James Remar, Stephen Rider, and Madeleine Stowe star in the series, and It director Andy Muschietti will also direct multiple episodes.
Jason Fuchs will write the teleplay for the first episode, based on an original story. Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane (Black Sails, Tokyo Vice) will serve as co-showrunners, along with Shelley Meals (Shadow & Bone, See), Roy Lee (Godzilla, Poltergeist), and Dan Lin (It) joining the Muschiettis as executive producers.
Welcome to Derry is set to release on HBO Max in 2025.
