Bethesda Developing ‘Fallout 5’ Concurrently With ‘The Elder Scrolls VI’

As Prime Video’s Fallout Season Two kicks into high gear, game franchise developer Bethesda has not forgotten its gaming fans, as it has offered a substantial tease on the development of the much-anticipated sequel, Fallout 5, with studio head Todd Howard revealing that the team is hard at work on the title and that it is being made alongside another massive upcoming title, The Elder Scrolls VI.

Speaking to Game Informer, Howard and other members of the Bethesda team touched on the franchise’s future and their lofty goals for the next Fallout gaming chapter. “I will say, first, looking at 76, we’ve never stopped developing Fallout. We’ve had a full team on Fallout for a long time. So, Fallout, as a franchise, is the one we’re still doing the most work in above anything,” said Howard in reference to 2018’s online multiplayer game Fallout 76.

“Now, the majority of our internal studio is on Elder Scrolls VI. We are doing other things with Fallout that we haven’t announced, and you know, there’ll come a time for that. I get the sort of anxiety from fans, like, ‘Well, what else? What else? Feed me!’ But, look, we’re working on stuff, and we do like to wait. And so, I think there’ll be a moment to talk about that, and we want to make those special moments for our fans.”

“The majority of the studios are on [Elder Scrolls VI], but I’ll say this: We always overlap,” Howard added. “So, we’re very used to overlapping development.”

Additionally, Studio Design Director Emil Pagliarulo added a snippet of info on Fallout 5 that’s as ambitious as it is exciting for fans – that the team is aiming for the game to be not just a lengthy one by today’s RPG standards, but one that players could potentially enjoy for many hundreds of hours.

“I would be happy with a game that is as successful as the previous Fallout games that continues to give fans what they love,” he explained, “To give them a story that they can get into and systems that they love and really just an experience that they play not for 20 hours and not for 100 hours, but an experience they can play for 200, 300, you know, 600 hours, because that’s the kind of games we make.”

Even though these are just mere statements at this point, at least fans can rest a bit easier knowing that Fallout 5 is still a huge priority for the team. Bethesda had previously announced that Fallout 5 will be its next title after The Elder Scrolls VI, and while the latter is currently fully into its development phase, albeit without a release window in sight, the fact that the two games are being developed simultaneously means that whenever The Elder Scrolls VI finally releases, Fallout 5 might not be too far behind.
