Wizards of the Coast has announced a summer-long celebration and the party begins with an animated short on Drizzt Do’Urden titled Sleep Sound.
The drow is one of the most iconic Dungeons & Dragons characters to grace the pages of Dungeons & Dragons books and campaigns ever since his first appearance in R.A. Salvator’s Forgotten Realms novels.
The animated short illustrates the story of Drizzt’s dark early days and is being narrated by the one and only Benedict Cumberbatch.
In Sleep Sound, fans listen to the voice of Cumberbatch as he takes the audience on a journey discovering Drizzt’s birth, his time in the drow city of Menzoberranzan, his flight to the surface, the time he spent as a ranger in Icewind Dale, and the formation of the Companions of the Hall. Sleep Sound also features Drizzt’s companions, dwarven king Bruenor Battlehammer who’s seen forging one of the strongest weapons in the Forgotten Realms – Aegis-fang, Wulfgar the barbarian facing a dragon, and Cattie-brie saving Drizzt’s life.
For the whole of summer, Wizards of the Coast will be offering all things Drizzt related including interviews with the developers of the Dark Alliance video game starring Drizzt and the Companions, new details about R.A. Salvatore’s newest Legend of Drizzt novel and a preview of 3 new Magic: The Gathering cards from the upcoming Adventures in the Forgotten Realms set.
There is no better time to be a Dungeons & Dragons fan than this year and the years coming. Apart from what Wizards of the Coast can offer, fans can also look forward to an upcoming movie adaptation starring Chris Pine, and a live-action series on the way.
