The latest State of Play presentation definitely had some cool surprises with some new IPs, but there is still some nostalgia at play with another Square Enix announcement. Coming later this year for the PlayStation 4 and 5, Valkyrie Elysium is the latest entry in the action RPG series.
As seen in the gameplay trailer, players will be introduced to a world where humanity is at its brink, and their interactions with gods take place in a unique world inspired by Norse mythology. Exploration and combat are a given, but the game will be a standalone adventure with no ties to the past games.
Valkyrie Elysium will have players take on the role of a lone Valkyrie, the salvation of this doomed world. Stepping into the ruined land, plenty of challenges await, and the truth behind the impending destruction of the world will be revealed.
The classic mechanic of recruitable warriors returns in Valkyrie Elysium, with Einherjar on hand to lend players some aid when summoned. Running at 4K and 60FPS on the PS5, we can expect the game to be buttery smooth with beautiful visuals as well. Series composer Motoi Sakuraba returns and will be contributing to the game’s stunning score. For those that like their RPGs with good music, you will not want to miss this.
Valkyrie Elysium releases for PS5 and PS4 in 2022, and Square Enix will have more information to share for the triumphant return of the Valkyrie later this year.
