Mention Lenny to anyone who has played Google Pay’s Huat Pals during last year’s Lunar New Year, and chances are drawn-out groans or long-suffering exasperation will be headed your way. The popular social game offered users more opportunities to score S$88.88, but it came with a catch: all five characters, or “Huat pals” (RaRa, Lenny Neo, Ah Huat, and BB Loh), had to first be collected through transactions, referrals, and other actions. The problem? BB Loh proved very elusive for many, while Lenny just kept popping up everywhere.
If you had missed out on reuniting the buddies previously, now’s the chance to redeem yourself. From now till 15 February, Huat Pals will be returning for its second run with five new characters, as well as more rewards and prizes in store. Tiggy is the main character for this round, with users tasked to reunite him with five unique Huat pals: Ah Lai, Bao Bao, Mala, Reddy (whose expression is truly a mood), and of course, the extremely rare BB Loh.
Similar to last year’s mechanics, gathering the whole crew yields a shot at winning a grand hamper containing a red packet worth up to S$88.88, alongside an exclusive voucher from the likes of FairPrice Online, Flash Coffee, foodpanda, and Shopee. The characters may be collected via the following ways, up to a maximum of five times per day:
- Making eligible transactions above S$5 to merchants daily on Google Pay. Transaction types include Tap & Pay (with an Android device), Scan and Pay (via FavePay QR, PayNow SGQR, or a UEN), and purchasing movie tickets and/or ordering food via the Google Pay app.
- Referring new users to Google Pay who make their first qualifying payment of S$10 and above
- Gifting Huat pals to friends
Those who are seeking more Lunar New Year goodness can also earn bonus pals when they complete five FavePay or five PayNow transactions, complete the first Tap & Pay transaction of S$5 and more, or make a dine-in order at selected restaurants (4Fingers Crispy Chicken, Ajumma’s, Marutama Ramen, Angelina Paris, Group Therapy Coffee, Orange & Teal, and the Brewing Ground) on the Google Pay app.
As more pals get unlocked, huat-ers stand a chance of earning attractive vouchers from 18 merchants, such as IRVINS, Klook, Shaw Theatres, Sephora, and TADA, through Gift Baskets, which will be given when characters Mala or BB Loh are found. These goodies can be shared among their friends and family to collect a random gift comprising vouchers, cashback scratch cards, other Huat pals, or even limited edition merchandise.
A new addition to the list, this giveaway features items like BB Loh enamel pins, Google Pay x Shopee tote bags, and exclusive red packets and stickers. Who knows, the pins might just act as a good luck charm that finally leads you to find the coveted character – especially if the RNG odds haven’t been treating you well.
The Google Pay app is available on both the Google Play Store (Android) and the App Store (iOS). Go forth and conquer the hunt, fellow huat-ers!
