For the third time, the Avatar has returned, this time in an earth-shattering first look at Avatar: Seven Havens, the sequel animated series to the fan-favourite Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005-2008) and The Legend of Korra (2012-2014).
Nickelodeon unveiled the artwork at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 on Thursday, which depicts the young female Avatar with her giant cat-like pet, and another companion tagging alongside her, as they traverse a rocky desert terrain, covered with crystals. In the distance, a desert kingdom looms amidst the sandy plains, while an aurora display illuminates the sky.

Avatar: Seven Havens is centred on two long-lost Earthbending twins as one of them discovers that she’s the newest Avatar, a being who can uniquely manipulate or ‘bend’ the four elements: air, water, earth, and fire.
The third series in the popular element-bending franchise will explore a world fractured by an unimaginable catastrophe, as the young Earthbender Avatar realises that her newfound status in the current era marks her, not as the world’s saviour like the previous iterations have been, but as the harbinger of humanity’s doom. With human and spirit foes hot in pursuit, she will have to navigate various perils, unearth the secrets behind her origins, and save the Seven Havens before the fall of civilisation as the world knows it.

The strong fandom rallied around the earlier two series, Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, and despite comparisons being drawn between the two, long-term fans still praised the handling of mature themes, Korra’s character development and the narratives painted in The Legend of Korra. While it remains to be seen what themes will be integrated into Avatar: Seven Havens and how its storytelling will be structured, there’s no doubt that fans will analyse the upcoming show to see if it lives up to its predecessors.
On the bright side, as fans continue to wait in thrilled anticipation for the third instalment in the Avatar franchise, there will soon be a new outlet for them to channel their enthusiasm with the release of The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, an animated feature film, in 2026. The upcoming film will be a continuation of the original series Avatar: The Last Airbender, taking place years after the series’ events and following the main cast as they journey through their young adulthood.

The new film features Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy) as the voice of the mysterious antagonist, with Eric Nam (Grandma’s Restaurant in Samcheong-dong) voicing Aang, Jessica Matten (Dark Winds) as Katara, Roman Zaragoza (Ghosts) as Sokka, and Dionne Quan (The Fairly OddParents) as Toph. Steven Yuen (Invincible, The Walking Dead) has also been cast in an undisclosed role.
The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender will bend its way into theatres on 9 October 2026, while Avatar: Seven Havens is slated for a 2027 release.
