James Cameron’s sci-fi sequel, Avatar: Fire and Ash, has continued its winning streak over its fourth weekend, maintaining its number one spot on the global box office with an additional US$21.3 million.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the film has now garnered an impressive total of US$1.23 billion globally, and although its performance is nowhere close to the heights of its two predecessors, with 2009’s Avatar and its 2022 sequel The Way of the Water garnering US$2.92 and US$2.26 billion, respectively, it’s still a massive achievement for Cameron, who now stands as the only director to have four consecutive films cross the US$1 billion mark.
Avatar: Fire and Ash continues the story of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) and their family as they face a new fiery threat, the aggressive Mangkwan Ash People clan led by the ruthless Varang. The film also stars Sigourney Weaver as Kiri, Stephen Lang as Colonel Miles Quaritch, Britain Dalton as Lo’ak, Bailey Bass as Tsireya, and Jack Champion as Miles “Spider” Socorro.

Elsewhere at the box office, Paramount’s horror newcomer Primate landed the number two spot with a US$13.4 million global haul. Directed by Johannes Roberts, known for other horror titles like 2017’s 47 Meters Down and 2021’s Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, Primate centres on a domesticated chimpanzee, Ben, who turns on the family who raised him when he becomes rabid.
Rounding off the top three is Paul Feig’s The Housemaid, which added a further US$11.2 million to its total haul after its second weekend, bringing its total haul to US$150 million worldwide. The thriller, which stars Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria) and Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia!), follows a young woman with a troubled past who becomes the live-in housekeeper for a wealthy couple whose household hides dark secrets.
