James Cameron’s sci-fi threequel Avatar: Fire and Ash has now crossed the coveted US$1 billion global box office milestone less than three weeks after its release on 18 December 2025, making it the fourth consecutive film in the director’s line-up to achieve this goal.

As reported by Variety, ticket sales for Avatar: Fire and Ash comprised of US$306 million in the United States plus an additional US$77.1 million internationally, making a grand total of US$1.083 billion as of 4 January 2026.
This achievement is not only good news all around for the movie itself, but for James Cameron’s line-up as a whole, as not only does it join the two Avatar predecessors, with 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water surpassing the US$1 billion mark after 14 days, while the original 2009 film hit this milestone after 17 days, it also marks the fourth consecutive film in Cameron’s belt to surpass the the billion-dollar box office mark, as prior to Avatar, his preceeding film, 1997’s Titanic, also garnered an impressive global box office of US$2.264 billion, making him the only director in history to hold such an achievement.
The Avatar franchise, as a whole, has also now garnered a staggering US$6.26 billion cumulatively, with Avatar, The Way of Water, and Fire and Ash garnering US$2.92, US$2.26, and US$1.08 billion, respectively. Additionally, the film also marks Disney’s third release of 2025 to cross the US$1 billion mark, following the achievements of Lilo & Stitch (US$1.038 billion) and Zootopia 2 (US$1.588 billion).

Avatar: Fire and Ash centres on Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) and their family as they face a new fiery threat, the aggressive Mangkwan Ash People clan led by the ruthless Varang. The film also stars Sigourney Weaver as Kiri, Stephen Lang as Colonel Miles Quaritch, Britain Dalton as Lo’ak, Bailey Bass as Tsireya, and Jack Champion as Miles “Spider” Socorro.
