Killers of the Flower Moon, the latest cinematic offering from acclaimed director Martin Scorsese, is set to grace theatres globally on 20 October 2023. This global release announcement comes on the heels of its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Fans will also be able to enjoy the film on Apple TV+ after its theatrical stint.
The movie originally had a limited release slated for 6 October 2023, but in an effort to reach a broader audience, Apple Original Films teamed up with Paramount Pictures for a wider release. Coinciding with this news, two distinct art posters were revealed.
Set in 1920s Oklahoma, the narrative delves deep into the haunting real events of the Osage Nation murders. The cast is headlined by big names such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, and Lily Gladstone. Other renowned actors like Brendan Fraser, Jesse Plemons, and Tantoo Cardinal also play pivotal roles.
An interesting tidbit from earlier reports states that Killers of the Flower Moon clocks in at a hefty 3 hours and 26 minutes. This makes it the second-longest offering from Scorsese, the first being The Irishman at 3 hours and 29 minutes.
Penned by Eric Roth alongside Scorsese, the film draws inspiration from David Grann’s popular book. The story sheds light on the Reign of Terror, marking the horrifying phase when the prosperous Osage Nation underwent a slew of merciless killings.
The production saw a collaboration between giants like Apple, Imperative Entertainment, and Sikelia Productions. Martin Scorsese, Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, and Daniel Lupi are credited as the film’s lead producers. DiCaprio, Rick Yorn, and Adam Somner are also among the executive producers.
Killers of the Flower Moon will release in theatres on 20 October 2023.
