Food is the way to the heart, especially when it forms an integral part of a cultural identity. For the Southeast Asian crowd, there’s no faster way to bond than over local delicacies, and Apple looks to uphold that spirit with a special collection of indie games on its App Store.
The catalogue, featuring titles made in Southeast Asia, celebrates homemade flavours of play as new features and in-app content themed after food in the region are launched. Of the list, two hail from Singaporean developers: A Slight Chance of Sawblades and Trial by Trivia, joining two from the Philippines — Window Garden and Potion Punch 2 — as well as another from Malaysia (Postknight 2).
Here’s a brief description of each title.
A Slight Chance of Sawblades
Chase your high scores in A Slight Chance of Sawblades as you dodge, jump and even somersault over an obstacle course as razor-sharp sawblades rain over you. From now to 24 October, catch the rain of kueh lapis and ketupat and even play as Singaporean-favourite, chilli crab.
Trial by Trivia

Choose from categories like countries, video games and fashion in the perfect opportunity to claim superiority and bragging rights with friends. From now to 29 October, seize this chance to show off your superior knowledge of Southeast Asian delicacies, in a limited-time event.
Window Garden
Window Garden‘s cosy virtual indoor garden is the perfect focus companion for plant lovers and fans of lo-fi vinyl music. Achieve your plant parent dreams with succulents, fruits and vegetables in a virtual healing space with home-y items. From now to 24 October, we hear there are certain iconic gem biscuit and rice crackers plushies for decoration.
Potion Punch 2
Turn the heat up in Potion Punch 2’s fast-paced time-management restaurant game with – baby dragons?! Run your own magical restaurant in this fantasy-style cooking simulator and embark on this journey with two alchemist entrepreneurs. From now to 14 November, serve fluffy rice cakes to customers wearing national costumes and even decorate with an outdoor sculpture inspired by Balinese monuments.
Postknight 2
No respectable game collection will miss out on a fun adventure RPG game – and that’s what Postknight 2 is. Begin your delivery adventure to become the best Postknight as you explore its vast fantasy world with boundless oceans, meadows and mountains. From now to 29 October, collect key ingredients to whip up signature dishes from Malaysia (yes, we have nasi lemak.)
As indie games continue to pick up steam in the mainstream market, it’s always heartening to see more releases within the smaller Southeast Asia landscape. One can never go wrong with food-inspired adventures, and there’ll be plenty more where that came from.
Keep cooking, creative forces in the region!
