It’s nearly 50 years since the inception of Star Wars, and the Force is as strong as ever. Star Wars Day (that’s May 4th, for the uninitiated, named after the iconic phrase, ‘May the Force Be With You’) is a testament to its enduring legacy, serving as a celebration of a galaxy far, far away — the good, the bad, and everything in between.

In honour of the annual occasion, media analytics firm Nielsen has shared some insights into the popularity of Star Wars shows and films on Disney+ and general viewing habits, starting with a Top 10 chart. Andor, in a surprising reveal for some, emerged as the most-watched title of last year with 7.4 billion minutes, boosted by the show’s release of its second-season episodes between April and May 2025.
For data specific to Star Wars Day, fans viewed a total of 637 million minutes of content, with the prequel series once again topping the list. It was followed by A New Hope, The Phantom Menace, The Empire Strikes Back, and Revenge of the Sith, as seen in the graphic below:

Other notable metrics include a 44.2 percent viewership for live-action films, 38.9 percent for live-action series, and 17 percent for animated shows, as well as a demographic breakdown aligning with specific titles: Gen Alpha and Baby Boomers (The Mandalorian), Gen Z (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), and Millennials and Gen X (Andor).
Set before 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Andor follows an ensemble cast primarily centred upon thief-turned-rebel spy Cassian Andor during the five formative years leading up to the events of the film and the original Star Wars movie, exploring the character’s radicalisation against the Galactic Empire, alongside the formation of the wider Rebel Alliance. It premiered in 2022 with the first three episodes, while the second and final season ran from 22 April to 13 May 2025.
