Lionsgate is ramping up excitement for Ballerina, the upcoming John Wick spin-off, with a new action-packed trailer that leans heavily into the franchise’s signature style. Starring Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro, the film takes place between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4, following a revenge-driven assassin tearing through the criminal underworld.
The trailer opens with a monologue referencing the kikimora, a vengeful spirit from Slavic folklore said to protect the innocent while punishing those with darkness in their hearts. This parallels John Wick’s own association with the Baba Yaga legend, reinforcing Eve’s place in the larger John Wick universe. Footage of her wreaking havoc in a nightclub suggests she fits the legend well, as does a particularly ruthless moment where she dispatches an enemy with a well-placed bullet.
Eve’s pursuit of vengeance begins with a single clue: a mysterious tattoo. Her journey brings her into the orbit of Winston Scott (Ian McShane) and Charon (the late Lance Reddick), two key figures from the Continental Hotel. Armed with firepower and an unstoppable will, she carves her way through enemies, setting foes ablaze with a flamethrower, tossing grenades behind closed doors, and engaging in high-speed shootouts from the wreckage of a car crash, and culminates in a tense standoff between Eve and John Wick, a fight that promises to be one of the film’s biggest moments.

The latest look at Ballerina offers a different tone from the previous trailer, which had already revealed that Eve and John would eventually work together. This earlier reveal lessened the tension surrounding their fight, making the new trailer feel like the one that should have been released first. Despite this, the action sequences, world-building, and deeper connection to John Wick lore all suggest the film will deliver what fans expect from the franchise.
All eyes will be on Eve Macarro when Ballerina hits cinemas on 6 June, as she steps into the John Wick universe with a vengeance. Whether she makes it out alive remains to be seen, but if the trailer is any indication, she won’t be going down without a fight.
