Prime Video‘s upcoming Spider-Noir series enters uncharted territory in more ways than one. The live-action adaptation is Nicolas Cage‘s first leading TV role, the first live-action series from the Into the Spider-Verse animated universe, and also marks the titular webcrawler’s live-action debut, but he isn’t the same Peter Parker that fans know.
As shown in the show’s first teaser trailer, Cage plays an ageing down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York, swinging through the city, beating up crooks, and nursing a hangover after getting “plastered.” In addition to the tagline “With No Power Comes No Responsibility,” there was a release date announcement for 27 May, with episodes dropping one-shot.
More interestingly, Spider-Noir will be available to stream in two formats, “Authentic Black & White” and “True-Hue Full Color,” a glimpse of which can be viewed below:
While Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse elevated the shadowy webhead to mainstream popularity, the series is inspired by the comic books and has no connection to Sony’s animated darling. It follows one Ben Reilly, who’s forced to grapple with this past life as the city’s only superhero, and will tap into classic noir influences.
Joining Cage, who originally voiced the character in the animated films, in the cast are Lamorne Morris (New Girl) as Robbie Robertson, Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin) as a mob boss, Abraham Popoola (The Rig) as a World War I veteran, Li Jun Li (Babylon) as a nightclub singer, and Jack Huston (Ben-Hur) as a bodyguard. Notable guest stars include Lukas Haas (Inception), Cameron Britton (The Umbrella Academy), Cary Christopher, Michael Kostroff (The Wire), Scott MacArthur (The Mick), Joe Massingill, Whitney Rice, Amanda Schull (Pretty Little Liars), Andrew Caldwell (College), Amy Aquino (ER), Andrew Robinson (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), and Kai Caster.

Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag) is directing and executive producing the first two episodes, with Oren Uziel (The Lost City) and Steve Lightfoot (The Punisher) serving as co-runners and executive producers. Original Into the Spider-Verse trio Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal are also on board with the development process.
Spider-Noir crawls to Prime Video on 27 May.
