In an act of double exposure (metaphorically, of course), Prime Video has announced the two leads for its upcoming Life is Strange series adaptation, which will adapt Square Enix’s time-bending narrative adventure.

According to Variety, industry newcomer Tatum Grace Hopkins is set to portray Max Caulfield, while Maisy Stella steps into the role of her best friend, Chloe Price. The project will mark the former’s TV debut, whose acting experience lies in Broadway productions such as The Queen of Versailles and For the Girls. Stella is a musician, but has previously starred in the hit ABC music drama Nashville and in 2024’s My Old Ass opposite Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation).
The official logline takes after the events of the first game, describing Max as “a photography student, who discovers she can rewind time while saving the life of her childhood best friend, Chloe. As she struggles to understand this new skill, the pair investigate the mysterious disappearance of a fellow student, uncovering a dark side to their town that will ultimately force them to make an impossible life-or-death choice that will impact them forever.”

As previously reported, Life is Strange is being directed by Charlie Covell, creator of the 2017 British black comedy The End of the F***ing World. The filmmaker also serves as writer and executive producer, alongside Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson from Story Kitchen (Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft). Story Kitchen, Square Enix, Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment and Amazon MGM will produce.
The news comes a few weeks before Life is Strange: Reunion, the direct sequel to 2024’s Double Exposure, that looks to close out Max’s saga and reunite her with Chloe. Releasing on 26 March, it makes both characters playable for the first time, with gameplay switching between two perspectives and each of their respective abilities. The franchise debuted in 2015 and has since spawned five more titles, including two sequels and three spin-offs.

The Life is Strange series currently has no premiere date, but it won’t be the only live-action video game adaptation heading to Prime Video — filming for the God of War series is underway, with an early-look photo showing Atreus and Kratos in costume. Season 2 of Fallout recently ended its run, while adaptations of Tomb Raider, Mass Effect, Wolfenstein, Warhammer 40K, and more continue to be in development.
