The Borderland knows no mercy, and Season 3 of Alice in Borderland will show just how dangerous things can get. Netflix has unveiled the full trailer for the upcoming sequel to the popular Japanese series, offering a sneak peek at the high-stakes games and intense battle royale thrills to expect.
In the action-packed reel, Kento Yamazaki’s Arisu and Tao Tsuchiya’s Usagi are thrust back into the perilous limbo world with a new cast of characters, except there’s now a catch — instead of a singular timeline, the events in the threequel seem to take place across both the real world and in the Borderland, where time passes by differently. As previously teased in the Season 2 finale, the Joker, the new and mysterious mastermind pulling the strings, will also play a major role in the story.

Joining Yamazaki and Tsuchiya as returning stars are Hayato Isomura (Who Saw the Peacock Dance in the Jungle?) as Banda, Ayaka Miyoshi (Knuckle Girl) as Ann, and Katsuya Maiguma as Yaba. Newcomers include Koji Ohkura (The Hot Spot), Risa Sudou (The Voice of Sin), Hiroyuki Ikeuchi (Apollo’s Song), Tina Tamashiro (XxxHolic), Kotaro Daigo (Out), Hyunri (Tokyo Vice), Sakura Kiryu (My Undead Yokai Girlfriend), Yugo Mikawa (Assassination Classroom: The Graduation), Joey Iwanaga (Bad Boys: The Movie), and Akana Ikeda (The Monster Within), with Kento Kaku (Like a Dragon: Yakuza) stepping into the role of enigmatic afterlife researcher, Ryuji, who abducts Usagi and forces Arisu back into the Borderland to save her.
An accompanying key visual of the forthcoming outing was released by the Netflix Japan account on X/Twitter:

Alice in Borderland Season 3 will be directed by returning helmer Shinsuke Sato, known for his work on several other live-action adaptations like Kingdom, Gantz, Death Note, and Bleach. The filmmaker also pens the screenplays of Alice in Borderland alongside Yasuko Kuramitsu (Kissing the Ring Finger).
“It’s time to return to the Borderland… In the previous season, Arisu and Usagi cleared every card’s game and returned to the real world. Now married, they lead a happy life, though their memories of the Borderland surface only in dreams and hallucinations,” reads the official synopsis from Netflix. “One day, Usagi suddenly vanishes. Guided by Ryuji, a man who studies the afterlife, she sets out for the Borderland. A devastated Arisu is visited by Banda, now a Borderland resident, who informs him of Usagi’s whereabouts. Arisu must now follow her back into inevitable danger to find her.

Based on the original manga by Haro Aso, the series follows Arisu, who’s forced to compete in life-threatening challenges controlled by an unknown force with other residents in an abandoned version of Tokyo. Each game corresponds to one of the four suits in a standard 52-card deck, and those who fail are decimated by lasers from the sky. Where the first two seasons were adapted from the source material, the third season appears to take after Alice in Borderland RETRY, the direct sequel to the original work.
Alice in Borderland Season 3 starts streaming on Netflix worldwide on 25 September.
