How To Train Your Dragon is the latest film to have its theatrical release date pushed back as the result of SAG-AFTRA strikes, which is clocking 113 days. These strikes involve members of the actors’ union protesting for better working conditions and fair compensation in the entertainment industry.
The good news is that the live-action remake of Cressida Cowell’s book series of the same name will only be delayed by about three months– from March 14, 2025, to June 13, 2025. The bad news is that How To Train Your Dragon’s new release date will see it competing against an untitled Pixar movie.
Though, if the live-action performs anything like its animated counterpart, it will have little to worry about.
Following the story of a young Viking named Hiccup who befriends and trains dragons, challenging his village’s dragon-hunting tradition, the trilogy of animated How To Train Your Dragon movies has amassed a global box office revenue exceeding $1.6 billion, received four Academy Award nominations, and secured a Golden Globe victory for How to Train Your Dragon 2.
Universal and Dreamworks Animations are leaving nothing to chance with an award-studded team leading the project. Three-time Oscar nominee Dean DeBlois (Lilo & Stitch, How To Train Your Dragon) returns to helm the project along with three-time Oscar nominee Marc Platt (La La Land, Bridge of Spies), and Emmy winner Adam Siegel (2 Guns, Drive) who will be producing the film.
