Shared via a post on Xbox Wire, the new partnership between Kojima Productions and Xbox will also extend beyond video games, with the two studios “collaborating across film and television to bring new stories to broader audiences.”

In an additional statement made by Kojima on social media, he explained that the decision came after PlayStation Studios unexpectedly gave notice that it would be cancelling the Physint project.

Physint is an important project both to me personally and to Kojima Productions. Determined to keep the project alive, we have spent the last three months searching tirelessly for a new partner,” he wrote. “In the course of seeking advice and pursuing negotiations with people across many fields, we found in Xbox a partner with whom we share a common vision for the future, and we have decided to team up with them once again. Please rest assured that development of Physint, our genre-defining action-espionage title, is ongoing and will continue moving forward.”

While no further details on the planned film and television projects were announced, the Physint project is a portmanteau of physical intelligence and is an upcoming stealth action video game, marking Kojima’s anticipated return to the genre after helming the Metal Gear series with Konami.

Xbox is also set to publish another Kojima game, the horror title OD, which is a collaboration with the studio and filmmaker Jordan Peele. Currently, both titles are still in their early stages with no concrete release windows, so fans might still be in for a long wait before any information surfaces.
