After over 75 years in the audio game, German company Sennheiser certainly knows what it’s doing when it comes to delivering quality sound with its earbuds. That’s why its latest Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 5 earbuds don’t focus too heavily on making changes to its already impressive audio performance, but rather on improvements in almost every other aspect.
Off the bat, these buds have seen a complete redesign over their predecessor, from the case to the actual devices themselves. Gone are the fins and square-ish shape of the True Wireless Momentum 4 earbuds, replaced by a rounder and more elongated chassis that conforms better to the shape of the ear. Sennheiser has also ditched the tray-looking case design of the previous iteration for something more akin to Sony’s earbud line-up, making it slimmer and easier to handle.
Each earbud weighs around 7g, with the total weight of the buds in their case coming in at 62g, with improved comfort over its predecessor thanks to soft silicone tips that prevent fatigue even after extended use. With ANC turned off, the Momentum True Wireless 5 lasts around 12 hours on a single charge, with 40 hours of total playtime with the case, with these numbers dipping to 6 hours and 20 hours with the case while using ANC.
In terms of sound, the Momentum True Wireless 5 keeps the same 7mm True Response Dynamic Drivers as its predecessor, providing the same wide soundstage and excellent audio separation. ANC has seen an improvement and does a good job blocking out most external sounds, with options for adaptive ANC via the Smart Control Plus app, although the seal on the default eartips is already well-fitting enough to dampen out most frequencies.
At S$479, the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 5 clocks in at the same starting price as its predecessor at launch, combining notable improvements at the same value. The earbuds are now available in five colours – Lavender, Graphite, Cream, Copper, and Denim.
