There’s no better time to be a Kingdom Hearts fan than now. Following the announcement of an animated Disney+ series and an updated late 2027 release for the fourth mainline game, Square Enix, Sony Music Solutions, and Disney have confirmed that a Kingdom Hearts exhibition will make its way to Japan next year.
Held from 5 February to 4 April 2027 at Mori Arts Center Gallery in Tokyo, it serves as a celebration of both the franchise’s 25th anniversary and the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 4. Details are under wraps, but the official website teases photo spots featuring iconic scenes from the video games, a replica of Sora’s iconic Keyblade, an immersive theatre, and exclusive merchandise at the venue.
Tickets will be available for purchase starting 8 October, with pricing information and purchase mechanics to be revealed at a later date. After the exhibition ends its run, players can look forward to a return to the action-RPG experience, where a new version of the Heartless, a world inspired by Pixar’s Coco, and the ability to control Mickey and Goofy outside of combat await. The highly anticipated sequel is set to kick off the “Lost Master” story arc and sees the Keyblade wielder trapped in the life-like world of Quadratum.
As for the animated project, no story specifics or a premiere date were announced. However, it’s described as a reimagining of the “iconic adventure with a brand-new story that will expand on the universe of Kingdom Hearts while celebrating the characters that have captured the hearts of millions of fans around the world,” with the key visual showing off a grown-up, more muscular Sora.
Noted for its intricate lore and complex narrative, the franchise started with 2002’s Kingdom Hearts and has sold over 39 million units worldwide across three mainline entries and multiple spin-offs. The main plot centres on Sora, as he journeys across various worlds to protect his friends and thwart the schemes of numerous villains.
