As it turns out, there’s a change in plans for Gears of War: E-Day. The upcoming entry in the shooter series is no longer coming to the PS5, as previously announced, and will instead release exclusively on Xbox and PC this October.
The news was preceded by an extended look at its gameplay that kicked off the Xbox Games Showcase 2026 in familiar fashion: plenty of blood, close-quarters violence, and cover. The new footage also teased the return of active reloads, retro lancers, and other staples, as well as Marcus Fenix – one of the two leading heroes of the earlier entries alongside Dom Santiago – fending off the Locust horde in his old suit.
More details, including story specifics, will be unveiled during the dedicated Gears of War: E-Day presentation, taking place immediately after the main show. The franchise follows society’s near-collapse after the events of Emergence Day, which marked the appearance of humanoid underground beings known as the Locust and sparked an all-out war that drove humanity to the brink of extinction.
The highly anticipated adventure is slated to launch on 6 October and serves as a prequel to the original game. Meanwhile, an adaptation of the series is in the works at Netflix, with Bullet Train and Fall Guy helmer David Leitch tapped to direct.
