Netflix Sets ‘Money Heist’ Crime Drama Universe Expansion

Five years after the end of Season 5, Netflix has announced the continuation of its hit crime drama series, Money Heist (La Casa de Papel in Spanish), with an expansion of the franchise’s universe currently in the works.

As revealed by actor Álvaro Morte, who played the Professor in the original 2017 series, at the Seville world premiere of Berlin Season 2, a prequel series focusing on the life of Andrés de Fonollosa (Pedro Alonso), aka Berlin, the news of a Money Heist expansion was also accompanied by a 50-second-long teaser titled “The world of Money Heist continues”.

“Some stories start with the perfect strike. And this one changed everything,” reads the trailer’s description. “From the first heist for cash to the most artful robbery of the century, including the assault that put tons of gold from the Bank of Spain on the line, the universe of Money Heist has never stopped growing, evolving, and surprising us. But if there’s one thing that’s clear, it’s that the revolution NEVER ends.”

For now, it’s unclear if this teaser means that Season 6 is on the way, or if there will be more character spin-offs like Berlin in the works. Currently, apart from the main series and its spin-off, the franchise has also received a Korean remake titled Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area, which adapts the general premise of the original, albeit with a Korean take.

Money Heist (2017)

The original Spanish series centred on a mysterious figure known as the Professor, who recruits eight people to pull off the biggest heist in recorded history, printing billions of euros in the Royal Mint of Spain. The series starred Morte as the Professor, Úrsula Corberó as Tokyo, Alonso as Berlin, Alba Flores as Nairobi, Jaime Lorente as Denver, Paco Tous as Moscow, Miguel Herrán as Rio, Darko Perić as Helsinki, and Roberto García Ruiz as Oslo.

For now, the future of the Money Heist universe remains a mystery, although fans eager for more heisting drama can look forward to Berlin Season 2, which will launch on Netflix on 15 May 2026.
