Ahead of its maiden voyage from its home port of Singapore in March, Disney has announced that Robert Downey Jr. will be the godparent of the Disney Adventure, the newest and largest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet.
The 60-year-old Academy Award-winning actor, perhaps best known for portraying Tony Stark/Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was already named an official Disney Legend back in 2019, and will now take on a role as the new ship’s godparent, a centuries-old custom believed to bring good fortune before a maiden voyage.
“Our new ship continues Disney Cruise Line’s tradition of bringing great stories to life at sea, and we are honoured that Robert Downey Jr., who has guided audiences through unforgettable Marvel stories, is the official godparent for the Disney Adventure,” said Chairman of Disney Experiences and incoming Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company Josh D’Amaro in a statement.
“It’s impossible to describe the majesty of the Adventure, and to be its godparent is an honour. As the largest ship in the Disney fleet, a gargantuan blessing must be bestowed … I’ll do my darndest,” added Downey.

As the largest of the Disney Cruise Line fleet, the Disney Adventure is set to bring over 100 years of Disney storytelling to life across its seven themed areas, which also include Marvel experiences. On the ship’s top deck, guests will be treated to the Marvel Landing, an expansive zone which features Tony Stark’s Ironcycle Test Run, the first roller coaster on a Disney Cruise Line ship and the longest of its kind at sea, alongside the “Avengers Assemble!” live stage production at the open-air Disney Imagination Garden area, and the Marvel WEB Workshop within its Oceaneer Club that lets young seafarers try out Super Hero suit prototypes and participate in interactive Avengers training simulations.
Guests can also enjoy a host of other activities aboard the Disney Adventure, such as character encounters, Broadway-style shows, themed staterooms, and more than 20 dining and lounge venues featuring world-class international and Asian-inspired cuisines and beverages when the ship embarks on its maiden voyage from Singapore in March 2026.
