Star Wars Fate of the Old Republic The Game Awards Trailer

TGA 2025 – Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic Set With Former ‘Mass Effect’ & KOTOR Director

When it comes to games under the Star Wars intellectual property, no title is arguably as influential as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (or KOTOR). Thus, when The Game Awards 2025 kicked off with a trailer for Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic and announced that the director of KOTOR and the Mass Effect trilogy will be heading the project, it’s no surprise that the news has got fans excited.

Like KOTOR, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic will be a single-player role-playing game which promises “innovative storytelling, memorable characters, and heart-pounding combat”. The game is being developed by Arcanaut Studios and Lucasfilm Games, with Casey Hudson, the director of the original KOTOR and Mass Effect trilogy, at the forefront of its development.

It is no wonder the trailer bears the hallmarks of any Mass Effect game – characters walking through alien planets toward a crashed ship that towers above them before the emergence of a lightsaber’s distinct hum and blue hue.

In an exclusive interview, Hudson and Lucasfilm Game’s VP and GM Douglas Reilly revealed that Fate of the Old Republic, which 25 years in the making, will deliver a “combination of player agency and immersion in Star Wars” that is the heart of KOTOR, and, although the game is not a direct sequel or continuation, “it is being built by people who helped shape that legacy”.
