Steven Spielberg Returns For ‘Gremlins 3’ Sequel In 2027

It’s time to keep the Mogwai dry once more, as Warner Bros. Discovery has announced that Gremlins 3 will arrive in 2027, with Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus both set to return.

Gremlins (1984)

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, CEO and President of Warner Bros. Discovery David Zaslav announced the sequel during an earnings call, with Gremlins 3 set for release on 19 November 2027. Chris Columbus, writer of the original 1984 film, will return to pen its script, alongside Final Destination: Bloodlines‘ Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein. Acclaimed filmmaker Steven Spielberg (Jurassic Park, Jaws) is also set to return to the beloved franchise as the sequel’s executive producer.

Gremlins first appeared on the big screen in 1984 and centred on Billy Peltzer (Zach Galligan), a boy who receives Gizmo the Mogwai as a pet from his father for Christmas. While cuddly, this strange creature comes with three rules: keep it away from light, don’t let it come in contact with water, and don’t feed it after midnight. As expected, these rules are soon broken, causing all hell to break loose as Gizmo spawns more Mogwai led by the evil Stripe, subsequently transforming into reptilian monsters known as Gremlins as they wreak havoc on the town.

Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990)

The film would go on to receive a sequel in 1990, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, which continued the story of Peltzer and Gizmo, with the Gremlins this time causing chaos within a skyscraper in New York City. Apart from the two main movies, the series also received a prequel animated series consisting of Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai and Gremlins: The Wild Batch, which came out in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

Now, almost 40 years on since the franchise’s last movie, Gremlins 3 is set to hatch from its cocoon on 19 November 2027, so we’ll see what antics the mischievous Mogwai get up to this time.
