The follow-up to 2010’s Facebook biographical drama, The Social Network, now has an official title, The Social Reckoning, and will centre on fresh faces as it approaches its theatrical release on 9 October 2026.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the film is written and directed by Aaron Sorkin (A Few Good Men, Moneyball), who returns after his work on the original film. The sequel will feature a new cast, including Mikey Madison (Scream), Jeremy Allen White (The Bear), comedian Bill Burr, and Jeremy Strong (Succession).
Set 17 years after the events of The Social Network, which centred around Mark Zuckerberg – portrayed by Jesse Eisenberg (Now You See Me) – and the events leading to Facebook’s creation, The Social Reckoning will centre around a young Facebook engineer, Frances Haugen, played by Madison, who teams up with Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz (White) as they expose the social network’s darkest secrets. The sequel will also feature Strong as an older version of Zuckerberg, replacing Eisenberg from the 2010 original.
Alongside Sorkin, The Social Reckoning will be produced by Todd Black (The Equalizer), Peter Rice (Warfare) and Stuart Besser (The Trial of the Chicago 7).

The original film was directed by David Fincher (Fight Club) and went on to attain both critical and commercial success, garnering US$226 million at the global box office and receiving eight Academy Award nominations, including best picture. With such a high bar being set, it remains to be seen if The Social Reckoning can live up to the expectations of its predecessor as it approaches its release on 9 October 2026.
