Warner Bros. Pictures’ game-to-film sequel, Mortal Kombat II, has received another promotional poster, and this time, it’s especially unhinged, featuring another new look at Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage in a fictional in-universe movie titled Uncaged Fury, which parodies actor Tom Cruise and his first Mission: Impossible adventure.
The poster was teased via a post on X/Twitter by Mortal Kombat game creator Ed Boon, who tagged the film’s producer, Todd Garner, to show off the “old” poster and DVD. Giving off a strong 90s action movie vibe and fonts from the 1995 game Mortal Kombat 3, the poster pokes fun at the 1996 classic spy adventure Mission: Impossible, featuring the same character silhouette against a world map and city skyline, this time replacing Cruise’s Ethan Hunt with Johnny Cage.
To take things even further, the Mortal Kombat II team also edited a fake IMDb page for Johnny Cage, featuring his credits in such fake film classics like Uncaged Fury, Hard to Cage and The Gist of My Fist, adding more immersion to the gag. In a laughable touch, each of his “movies” also received the same score of 6.9. Nice.
Portrayed by The Boys and Dredd star Karl Urban in the upcoming film, its version of Cage is set to remain faithful to how the character was in the games, in which he was an action film star with an extensive martial arts background. Tricked by the sorcerer Shang Tsung into entering the Mortal Kombat tournament, Cage joins the Earthrealm warriors in their fight to prove that he does not rely on special effects in his films and to further increase his marketability.

While plot details of the film remain under wraps, fans have gotten a pretty sizable tease thus far with four movie stills, featuring Cage, Adeline Rudolph’s (Hellboy: The Crooked Man) Kitana and Martyn Ford’s (F9) Shao Kahn. The film will feature returning cast members from 2021’s Mortal Kombat, including Ludi Lin (Power Rangers) as Liu Kang, Joe Taslim (The Raid) as Sub-Zero, Tadanobu Asano (Shōgun) as Raiden, Jessica McNamee (The Neighbour) as Sonya Blade, Mehcad Brooks (Supergirl) as Jax, Lewis Tan (Cobra Kai) as Cole Young, Chin Han (Skyscraper) as Shang Tsung, and Hiroyuki Sanada (47 Ronin) as Scorpion.
The sequel’s other new faces will include Tati Gabrielle (You) as Jade, Damon Herriman (Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood) as Quan Chi, Ana Thu Nguyen as Sindel, and CJ Bloomfield (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga) as Baraka. Mortal Kombat II is due to hit cinemas on 24 October 2025.
