HBO Max Green Lantern Series Will Focus On Two Iconic Lanterns And Sinestro

It’ll probably be a while before we get to see the upcoming Green Lantern TV series on HBO Max, but the excitement surrounding it may yet increase over the next few months.

Other than the fact that it is now a part of the Greg Berlanti-produced DC Multiverse as was teased at the end of the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover storyline on The CW, we don’t yet know much about it.

But we do know that it will “will span several decades and focus on the origin stories of two major Green Lanterns on Earth.”

This quote came from HBO Max’s Head of Originals, Sarah Aubrey, who spoke to The Wrap recently during the Television Critics Association press tour earlier this week.

While there are no names specified since there are actually quite a few Green Lanterns from Earth a.k.a Space Sector 2814. A good guess could be the two most popular Lanterns to bear this title: Hal Jordan (who was last played by Ryan Reynolds in the poorly-received 2011 movie of the same name), and John Stewart (who is most famously remembered in the 2001 Justice League animated series).

Other noteworthy candidates include Guy Gardner, Kyle Rayner, Simon Baz, and Jessica Cruz.

Clockwise from top: Guy Gardner, Kyle Rayner, Simon Baz, Jessica Cruz.

They report that Aubrey mentioned that the show is currently in the “early stages”, and that Sinestro will appear as the series’ main antagonist.

For the uninitiated, Sinestro is the archenemy of the most iconic Green Lantern, Hal Jordan. Originally a decorated member of the Green Lantern Corps and mentor to Hal, his tyrannical way of leadership led him to being exiled, after which he defected and formed the Sinestro Corps to challenge his original masters and his former disciple.

No cast or crew, or a release date was yet announced for Green Lantern.
