Eddie Murphy Returns To America With Beverly Hills Cop 4 Sequel

If you thought Eddie Murphy will be done with sequels once the sequel for Coming to America is done then you’re sorely mistaken. The actor has confirmed in an interview with Collider that a fourth instalment for Beverly Hills Cop will be happening

When asked by Collider’s Steve Weintraub on whether he was serious about working on Beverly Hills Cop 4 after he is done with Coming to America 2, Murphy said:

“Yeah that’s what we’re doing after Coming to America 2. We’re doing Beverly Hills Cop and then the plan is to get back on stage and do standup. That’s what I’ll be doing mostly is standup. These movies and Saturday Night Live it’s kind of like…I’m looking at it as a bookend. If I decided I wanted to stay on the couch forever, I ended it on a funny note.”

Over the past decade, talks about a Beverly Hills Cop 4 has been perpetually on and off, with productions for a sequel never really picking off. Now, we finally get a confirmation and it seems like Murphy intends to start production on the movie sometime next year, which means we just might get to see the film in 2021.

Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) Directed by Tony Scott Shown: Eddie Murphy (as Det. Axel Foley)

Murphy will be reprising the role of Axel Foley, the Detroit cop who winds up visiting the titular Beverly Hills to solve the murder of his best friend. The first film was originally released in 1984, more than three decades ago, which soon became an action-comedy classic amongst fans. Its popularity led to the release of a second and third instalment of Beverly Hills Cop though these only received mixed-to-poor responses from critics.

Not much else is known about Beverly Hills Cop 4 but we do know that Eddie Murphy’s Coming 2 America, the sequel to 1988’s Coming to America will be released in theatres on December 18, 2020.
