’28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’ Trailer Sets Up Ralph Fiennes’ Return & Bond With Alpha Zombie

The Rage Virus isn’t all the rage, as new threats will emerge in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. Sony Pictures has dropped the first trailer for Nia DaCosta‘s follow-up to 28 Years Later, setting the stage for the return of Ralph Fiennes’ character Dr. Kelson, who’s seen putting down his blowgun and approaching the towering alpha, Samson (Chi Lewis-Parry), presumably in an effort to communicate.

Elsewhere, protagonist Spike (Alfie Williams) is now a reluctant member of Jimmy Crystal’s (Jack O’Connell) crew with a blonde wig to match. The group goes around to terrorise other survivors in masks before setting foot into the Bone Temple, and it quickly becomes clear that man can be more dangerous than the infected (what’s new?).

“Dr. Kelson finds himself in a shocking new relationship — with consequences that could change the world as they know it — and Spike’s encounter with Jimmy Crystal becomes a nightmare he can’t escape,” the film’s official synopsis reads. “In the world of The Bone Temple, the infected are no longer the greatest threat to survival — the inhumanity of the survivors can be stranger and more terrifying.”

Danny Boyle, who directed 28 Years Later, returns as producer on The Bone Temple, with Alex Garland (Civil War) writing and producing. Picking up immediately after the events in the 2025 sequel, the film will bring back original star Cillian Murphy as Jim and as executive producer. Additional cast includes Emma Laird (The Brutalist), Maura Bird, and Erin Kellyman (Willow).

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple releases in theatres on 16 January 2026,
