Plenty is going down in a post-apocalyptic Britain ravaged by the Rage virus — not only are the infected and Alphas still a threat, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple sees Jimmy Crystal, played by Jack O’Connell in the film, and his crew searching for “souls to deliver to hell” amid Dr Kelson’s (Ralph Fiennes) continued research into the nature of the Rage.
But what’s most intriguing is the interaction between the two characters, as teased in the latest trailer, which shows them engaged in a tense yet civil conversation. Coupled with Kelson’s efforts to potentially cure the Alpha Samson (Chi Lewis-Parry), it seems the blend of sociopolitical commentary and visceral horror is here to stay in the forthcoming follow-up.
Candyman‘s Nia DaCosta took over the directing reins from Danny Boyle, with Cillian Murphy, the original film’s breakout star, serving as executive producer. Alex Garland, who wrote for both the 2002 classic and its sequel, 28 Years Later, also returned to pen the script. Additional casting for The Bone Temple includes Emma Laird (The Brutalist), Maura Bird, and Erin Kellyman (Willow).

“In a continuation of the epic story, Dr Kelson finds himself in a shocking new relationship — with consequences that could change the world as they know it — and Spike’s (Alfie Williams) encounter with Jimmy Crystal becomes a nightmare he can’t escape,” reads the official logline. “In the world of The Bone Temple, the infected are no longer the greatest threat to survival — the inhumanity of the survivors can be stranger and more terrifying.”
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple hits theatres on 16 January 2026.
