Warner Bros is developing a Siren Head movie based on the viral internet horror sensation, with Weapons filmmaker Zach Cregger penning its script alongside Brian Duffield (The Babysitter), who is also set to direct.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the studio came out on top of a five-studio bidding war for the rights to Siren Head, proving that internet memes and culture have become highly sought-after properties in Hollywood following the success of A24’s Backrooms film.
Cregger will also double up as the film’s producer alongside Roy Lee and Andrew Childs of Vertigo Entertainment, the studio which produced Weapons. They will be joined by Duffield via his Jurassic Party Productions banner, and Scott Glassgold of 12:01 Films, a company which specialises in finding material on the internet to adapt into Hollywood features.
Created by Canadian artist Trevor Henderson in 2018, Siren Head is a towering cryptid with two sirens as a head and a skinny, mummy-like body. The creature is known for striking fear by playing loud, air-raid-like sirens, mimicking voices to lure people in, and for its ability to blend in with telephone poles or streetlights. It didn’t take long for the creature to explode in popularity on the internet, kicking off a slew of fan theories, alongside fan-made short videos and video games, with some videos raking in millions of views.

Cregger and Duffield aren’t just taking advantage of Siren Head’s memeability either, as the duo are said to have found their own take on its world to evolve the monster’s mythology. This, coupled with their pedigree for creating top-tier horror cinematic experiences, played a huge part in their bidding war win, so it will be interesting to see how they can bring their own version of Siren Head to life and take another horror from the internet to the big screen once more.
