It’s been an exciting week for The Last of Us fans, with the HBO series announcing its cast for Season 2. Young Mazino has been tapped to play Jesse in The Last of Us Season 2, which comes shortly after Kaitlyn Dever was casted as Abby, the main antagonist of the second game.
“Young is one of those rare actors who is immediately undeniable the moment you see him,” said co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann in a joint statement. “We’re so lucky to have him, and we can’t wait for the audience to see Young shine in our show.”
Young previously starred alongside The Walking Dead ‘s Steven Yeun in Beef, which follows the aftermath of a road rage incident between two strangers. Critics praised Young’s performance as Paul, and the series went on to win a Golden Globe.
Jesse, one of the Last of Us Part 2’s supporting characters, is a friend of Ellie and Dina’s who leads a patrol group in Jackson, and “a pillar of his community who puts everyone else’s needs before his own, sometimes at terrible cost.”
Fans are eagerly waiting for Dina’s casting announcement, which should come soon after Young Mazino being cast as Jesse.
The Last of Us Season 2 is set to begin filming in early 2024.
