Win The Race For Properties In The New Monopoly Gamer: Mario Kart

The list of licensed editions of Monopoly are endless, and that list continues to grow. Hasbro’s classic board game once again has a fresh new skin, now in the form of Monopoly Gamer: Mario Kart! A sequel to the Super Mario Bros-themed Super Mario Monopoly Gamer set of last year, Monopoly Gamer: Mario Kart will have players snapping up iconic properties from the racing game such as Rainbow Road, Bowser’s Castle, and Sweet Sweet Canyon.

While maintaining the core Monopoly gameplay of going around a board, fighting for properties, and tearing families apart, this edition offers some neat Mario Kart twists. Instead of dollar bills, deals are made with golden coins, and passing Go requires you to flip over a Grand Prix card (pictured below) instead of collecting $200.

Doing so triggers a race, where all players have the option to pay to enter and win rewards accordingly based on the merits of their dice roll.

Apart from the regular Move die, players also roll an additional Power-up die on their turn, adding a signature Mario Kart power-up to your arsenal. For instance, rolling a Green Shell causes the player directly in front of you to drop three coins on their spot. Other power-ups include banana peels and blue shells to take out the leader of the board.

Players can choose to play one of four racers – Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad. But just unlike the standard tokens of Monopoly, each token here has a special affinity for a power-up, and a different Super-Star ability which is activated when the player lands on a star space.

Monopoly Gamer: Mario Kart is available now for US$24.99 at GameStop, and is slated for release at other retailers in June 2018. Hasbro also plans to sell “Power Pack” add-ons, adding Bowser, Rosalina, Metal Mario, Donkey Kong, Shy Guy, and Yoshi as playable characters.
