Wesley Snipes Nets Two Guinness World Records With Blade’s Surprise Return In ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

Wesley Snipes has officially made a dramatic return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, reprising his role as the iconic vampire hunter Blade in the film Deadpool & Wolverine.

This appearance not only thrilled fans but also set two new Guinness World Records. Snipes now holds the record for the Longest Career as a Live-Action Marvel Character, having first portrayed the character in 1998.

His return after nearly 26 years surpasses Hugh Jackman’s record with Wolverine, which began in 2000. Additionally, Snipes claims the title for the Longest Gap Between Character Appearances in Marvel Films, with a 19-year hiatus since Blade: Trinity in 2004. This comeback outpaces Alfred Molina’s 17-year break between his appearances as Doctor Octopus in the Spider-Man series.

Snipes shared in an interview previously that he was initially sceptical about returning, especially given Marvel’s casting of Mahershala Ali in an upcoming Blade reboot. Despite these reservations, Ryan Reynolds’ outreach and the unique opportunity convinced him to reprise his role, adding a memorable layer to the expanding Marvel Universe.

The reboot itself has also faced its share of complications. Marvel first confirmed the Blade reboot with Ali back in 2019, but the project has since been met with budget cuts and multiple delays, including directors Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange‘s exits from the film and the 2023 writers’ strike.

Blade is slated for a standalone film premiere on 7 November 2025, promising more vampire-hunting action in a freshly reimagined approach.
