The live-action movie adaptation of Supermassive’s Until Dawn has seen the light of day (or dawn, if you’d prefer), with director David F. Sandberg announcing the end of filming two months after it started.
“We made it until dawn! That’s a wrap on #UntilDawnMovie,” reads his Instagram update. The caption is accompanied by a celebratory set photo splattered in blood, alongside the date of 4 October and the movie’s title on the slate.
No release date has been announced for the project, but it stars Ella Rubin (The Idea of You), Michael Cimino (Love, Victor), Ji-young Yoo (Expats), and Odessa A’zion (Hellraiser). The extent of its adaptation is unclear, as are the roles they play in the film. However, its description as an “R-rated love letter to the horror genre” suggests that some elements in the 2015 game will be retained.
Blair Butler, head writer of NBC gaming-focused network G4’s X-Play programme, and Gary Bauberman (Annabelle, The Nun) serve as scriptwriters on the project. Actor Peter Stormare is also reportedly reprising his role as Dr. Hill, while Sandberg’s more notable credits include Annabelle: Creation and Lights Out.
In the lead-up to the Until Dawn movie, Supermassive has rebuilt and enhanced the original title for PS5 and PC. It was released on 4 October, the same day filming wrapped up for the movie, alongside the following synopsis:
“When eight friends return to the isolated mountain lodge where two of their group vanished a year prior, things quickly take a sinister turn. As fear tightens its icy grip on the group, their remote retreat becomes an inescapable nightmare.”
