From the possible return of fan-favourite X-Men characters like Gambit and Rogue, to a mind-bending trip through MCU history, the possibilities are endless. Could Deadpool and Wolverine’s time-travelling shenanigans land them in the middle of the Avengers: Endgame battle? Will we see the return of beloved characters from the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. series? And what about the rumoured appearance of multiple Wolverine variants, each with their own unique backstory and powers?

With so many possibilities on the table, Deadpool & Wolverine promises to be a wild, unpredictable ride through the Marvel multiverse. Here are the top 10 moments we’re hoping to see.

1) The Old Man Logan Timeline Theory

Deadpool & Wolverine

Speculation is rife that this Wolverine hails from a failed Fox timeline, possibly the one depicted in Mark Millar’s Wolverine: Old Man Logan comic book. Evidence includes his reluctance to use his claws, his world-weary demeanour, and the trailer’s references to Pym Falls and a Giant-Man helmet. Seeing a battle-worn Wolverine grapple with his past traumas while navigating Deadpool’s chaotic world would be an emotional rollercoaster. Plus, a showdown with Cassandra Nova, a powerful psychic villain, could add a thrilling dimension to the plot.

Additionally, the trailer hints at a potential connection to the X-Men: Days of Future Past storyline. Could time-travel shenanigans have brought this Wolverine into the MCU? This would explain the Time Variance Authority’s (TVA) involvement and offer a fresh take on a beloved X-Men arc. Exploring this connection could create a fascinating narrative bridge between the Fox X-Men films and the MCU, while also showcasing the TVA’s growing importance in the Multiverse Saga.

2) The Human Torch’s Appearance

Deadpool & Wolverine

A recent rumour making the rounds suggests a major cameo from Chris Evans, not as Captain America, but as his earlier Marvel role, the Human Torch. This would be a clever nod to Evans’ pre-MCU days, and with his connection to Ryan Reynolds and the film’s producers, it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility. After all, Evans has expressed interest in reprising the fiery hero, and this could be the perfect opportunity to bring him back into the fold, even if just for a brief appearance.

Another hot rumour hints at the return of Michael B. Jordan as the Human Torch, though this seems less likely given his current prominence in the MCU as Killmonger. However, Jordan sharing the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer on his Instagram story has fueled speculation about a Fantastic Four cameo. Perhaps we’ll see a multiverse twist where different versions of the Human Torch interact, offering a playful commentary on the character’s multiple iterations.  Regardless of who dons the fiery suit, a Fantastic Four appearance would add another layer of excitement to this already highly anticipated film.

3) Taylor Swift’s Debut In MCU As Dazzler

Deadpool & Wolverine

Fans are on high alert for any clues about Taylor Swift making her MCU debut as Dazzler in Deadpool & Wolverine. Speculation has been sparked by lyrics from her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, where she sings, “The future’s bright… Dazzling.” in the song titled Clara Bow, with many interpreting it as a sly confirmation of her role. Her friendship with Ryan Reynolds and the film’s director, Shawn Levy, only adds fuel to the fire.

Not to mention that Ryan Reynolds himself has acknowledged the Swift casting rumours, playfully stating that “anything is possible” in the superhero universe. His coy response only intensifies the anticipation surrounding Swift’s potential cameo. Whether it’s a brief appearance or a more significant role, Taylor Swift’s presence in Deadpool & Wolverine would undoubtedly be a highlight for both Marvel fans and Swifties alike. Will we see Swift light up the screen with her mutant powers and star power? Only time will tell, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed for this dazzling debut.

4) Deadpool & Wolverine’s Secret Avengers: Endgame Cameo

Deadpool & Wolverine

One of the most intriguing shots in the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer shows the duo leaping into a mysterious portal. Speculation is rife about where it could lead, and one intriguing possibility is straight into the heart of the Avengers: Endgame battle. This chaotic clash of heroes against Thanos was the culmination of a decade of storytelling, and the perfect place for Deadpool and Wolverine to blend in unnoticed. This would retroactively insert the two into the MCU’s most pivotal moment, cleverly integrating them into the existing timeline.

Such a twist would also be a perfect fit for Deadpool’s humour and penchant for breaking the fourth wall. It would explain how the X-Men seamlessly join the MCU – they were there all along, just hidden in plain sight! This could even lead to a hilarious encounter with Doctor Strange and Wong, as they grapple with the sudden appearance of these time-traveling troublemakers. The possibilities are endless, and this portal scene could become a defining moment in the film, solidifying Deadpool and Wolverine’s place in the MCU.

5) The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Make A Comeback

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Deadpool & Wolverine‘s multiversal adventure opens a tantalising possibility: the return of beloved characters from the defunct Marvel Television series, including Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. As we know, some elements from the old studio, such as Netflix’s Daredevil has made a comeback, but others, like the return of Agent Phil Coulson, has not.

The TVA’s involvement hints at a storyline ripe for introducing characters like Agent Coulson and Daisy Johnson, who could seamlessly integrate into the multiverse narrative without contradicting established canon.

This scenario mirrors the successful reintroduction of Daredevil in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which catapulted the character back into the mainstream spotlight. While the focus remains on celebrating the X-Men universe, the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home proves that fan-favourite cameos can enhance a film without overshadowing its core narrative. If Deadpool can bridge the gap between the Fox and MCU universes, why not extend that courtesy to the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? It’s a long shot, but the potential for these beloved characters to make their triumphant return to the big screen is an exciting prospect for fans.

6) A Gambit & Rogue Reunion

X-Men '97

Whispers of Channing Tatum finally donning Gambit’s iconic trench coat is fueling fan excitement for Deadpool & Wolverine. The potential for a Gambit cameo has been amplified by the cancellation of his solo film, starring Tatum, following Disney’s acquisition of Fox. Bringing Tatum’s iteration of the Cajun charmer into the film could be a clever way to salvage his performance and introduce him to a wider audience. Moreover, the leaks also suggest that Gambit will be part of a resistance group fighting against the main antagonist Cassandra Nova, setting the stage for a thrilling reunion between Gambit and Anna Paquin’s Rogue.

Given the central role of the Magneto, Rogue, and Gambit love triangle in the recent X-Men ’97 series, the film could explore this complex dynamic further. Imagine Gambit, fueled by his love for Rogue, unleashing a fury of kinetic energy against the Master of Magnetism himself. This exploration of their intertwined fates could add emotional depth and intensity to the film, making it a must-watch for X-Men fans.

7) Time-Travelling Cable To The Rescue

Cable & Thanos

What if Deadpool and Wolverine’s multiversal escapades include a cameo from a familiar face – Cable? Perhaps the time-travelling mutant will swoop into the climactic battle of Avengers: Endgame, plucking Deadpool and Wolverine out of the fray before anyone mistakes him for Thanos. Given that both characters are portrayed by Josh Brolin, this would create a hilarious meta-moment, capitalising on the actor’s dual roles in the MCU.

Cable, with his gruff demeanour and futuristic technology, could then whisk the duo on a whirlwind tour through various MCU events. Picture Deadpool and Wolverine crashing the party at Tony Stark’s lake house in Iron Man 3 or getting caught up in the chaos of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. This time-hopping adventure would not only provide ample opportunities for witty banter and fourth-wall breaks but also offer a fresh perspective on iconic MCU moments.

8) Tom Hiddleston’s Loki Appears As The Custodian Of The Multiverse

Loki

With the TVA’s confirmed involvement and a glimpse of the Yggdrasil mural, fans believe Deadpool & Wolverine will take place after the events of the second season of Loki. This opens the door for Tom Hiddleston’s Loki to appear as the newly minted Custodian of the Multiverse and God of Stories, a powerful figure overseeing the vast expanse of realities. There is a chance that Loki, with his newfound knowledge and authority, could actually be the one to reveal the existence of the X-Men to the MCU. This would be a momentous occasion, linking two iconic Marvel franchises and potentially setting the stage for future collaborations.

While Hiddleston remains tight-lipped, the potential for a Loki cameo adds another layer of intrigue to Deadpool & Wolverine‘s already exciting multiverse storyline.

9) The Wolverine Multiverse

Deadpool & Wolverine

The Deadpool & Wolverine trailer’s glimpse of Wolverine’s ‘Patch’ persona has ignited rumours of Daniel Radcliffe stepping into the role. Radcliffe’s diverse acting experience and physical resemblance to the character make him a compelling choice. With fans already clamouring for his MCU debut, a cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine could be the perfect introduction for this beloved character.

Henry Cavill, the charismatic Man of Steel, could also surprise as a mysterious, potentially villainous Wolverine variant (Weapon X), fueling speculation about future MCU appearances. Meanwhile, Taron Egerton, a popular fan-cast choice for the MCU’s main Wolverine, could make a cameo as a younger, more optimistic Logan, serving as a thrilling tease for future X-Men projects within the MCU. And who could forget Karl Urban, whose experience playing both heroes and villains makes him a perfect fit for a grizzled, battle-hardened Wolverine variant. A multiverse filled with diverse Wolverine variants would offer a fascinating exploration of the character’s complex history and provide a feast for fan speculation.

10) X-23’s Return

Deadpool & Wolverine

The potential for not one, but two X-23s in Deadpool & Wolverine has fans buzzing with anticipation. Could Dafne Keen reprise her role as the young mutant, surprising Wolverine with a heartfelt reunion? Their last encounter was a tearjerker, leaving Keen’s X-23/Laura burying her father at the end of 2017’s Logan. Imagine their paths crossing again, only for this world-weary Wolverine not to recognise her. The emotional fallout, potentially leading to a fierce showdown between father and daughter, could be a show-stopping moment.

Adding another layer of intrigue is the rumoured appearance of an older X-23 variant, portrayed by Natalia Tena. This could lead to a fascinating dynamic between two versions of the same character, each shaped by different experiences and timelines. Witnessing the interactions between these two X-23s, and their shared connection to a time-displaced Wolverine could be a highlight of the film.

Ultimately, Deadpool & Wolverine has the potential to be more than just another superhero flick. It could be a celebration of the X-Men legacy, a bridge between different cinematic universes, and a hilarious, action-packed thrill ride. We can’t wait to see how this wild ride unfolds, and if these top 10 moments come to fruition, it’s sure to be a cinematic experience we won’t soon forget.

Deadpool & Wolverine will open in cinemas on 26 July.
