Tokyo Game Show 2020 Cancelled, Digital Event To Happen Instead

The organiser of the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) has announced that this year’s event will be cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This makes TGS 2020 one of the latest gaming events to be negatively affected by the pandemic, much like E3 2020 and the Games Developers Conference.

Instead of a physical event, the organisers have stated the event will be replaced with a digital showcase.

This will also mark the first time TGS has ever been cancelled since its inception in 1996. But with how packed gaming events can get, with attendees rubbing shoulder to shoulder as they make their way through the convention hall, it was inevitable for the event to get cancelled in 2020.

Still, at the very least it looks like fans of the convention will still have something to look forward to, with TGS’ digital replacement.

TGS 2020 would have taken place from 24 to 27 September at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan. More details on the online event will be announced in the coming weeks.
