‘The Witcher’ Casts Lawrence Fishburne As Fan-Favourite Regis

Netflix’s The Witcher live-action adaptation has one one thing right, and that’s bringing fan-favourite character Regis to the big screen, with Lawrence Fishburne being cast in the role. After Henry Cavill’s departure from the show and Liam Hemsworth replacing him as Geralt, this is perhaps an attempt at redeeming itself to its fanbase.

Fishburne has starred in a variety of films and TV shows including Hannibal, and Ant-Man and the Wasp, with three Emmy awards to boot. “I’m very excited to be joining the cast and look forward to exploring the wondrous world of The Witcher,’” said the actor on playing Regis.

Regis, who fans will recognise from in-universe books, was first introduced in the third novel, “Baptism of Fire”. The character made subsequent cameos in CD Projekt Red’s trilogy of games, joining Geralt of Rivia on his quest across the Continent as a “a world-wise barber-surgeon with a mysterious past”, and played a major role in the Blood and Wine expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Fishburne is the latest new addition to the cast of the show’s fourth season, which will see Anya Chalotra, Freya Allen, and Joey Batey reprising their roles as Yennefer, Ciri, and Jaskier respectively. Production on The Witcher Season 4 is set to begin this spring, with its official synopsis as follows:

“After the shocking, Continent-altering events that close out season three, the new season follows Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri, who are faced with traversing the war-ravaged Continent and its many demons apart from each other. If they can embrace and lead the groups of misfits they find themselves in, they have a chance of surviving the baptism of fire — and finding one another again.”
