Work hard, play hard has always been a core tenet of the ROG Flow series, and ASUS is going full steam ahead with its newest member. The ROG Flow X16 (GV601) continues to uphold the high-performing, flexible DNA of its family, bringing power and ultra-versatility to both work and play – whether on-the-move or otherwise.
Featuring an AMD Ryzen 9 6900HS processor, a GPU that goes up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, and MUX Switch support, the laptop packs plenty of horsepower into a fairly lightweight chassis. It tips the scales at 2.1kg and measures 19.4mm thick, but is more than capable of rendering frames in a game much faster than what its svelte frame might suggest.
The performance is further boosted by a maximum Total Graphics Power (TGP) of 125 watts with Dynamic Boost, which allows the GPU to push past its limits and reach its peak potential. There’s no need to worry about runtimes, either – the Flow X16 boasts a large 90W battery that delivers plenty of juice through a day’s use.
But powerful hardware performance doesn’t count for much without a good, dazzling panel. Gaming enthusiasts won’t be able to bask in the breathtaking game environments and fast-paced action, while content consumers will be deprived of vibrant visuals that breathe life into well-crafted fictional worlds. This is where the Nebula HDR display comes in handy, with its 100 percent coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space, at least 500 nits of maximum brightness, and Pantone Validation delivering accurate imagery and crisp colours.
Throw into the mix a QHD resolution (2,560 x 1,440), a three-millisecond response time, and a 16:10 aspect ratio, and users are more than geared up to enjoy fluid on-screen content that’s free of tearing, haloing, and ghosting. Latency will also be an issue of the past, giving competitive gamers an edge over their opponents in fast-paced multiplayer titles.
Next-level cooling solutions mean that frame rates will remain high during these moments as well. In addition to Thermal Grizzly liquid metal on the CPU, the laptop sports the brand-new Frost Force Technology, which ships with two fans that direct airflow through crucial internal components, and a third auxiliary fan that keeps GPU temperatures seven degrees cooler than traditional builds.
High-end performance, check. Superior visuals, double check. The next on the list is all-in-one versatility, and ASUS manages to nail that down here. Armed with the line-up’s signature full 360-degree hinge, the convertible laptop can be transformed from a traditional clamshell build into tent mode, which maximises airflow when using an external keyboard or gamepad, or tablet mode, which utilises touch functionality. Want to take a short gaming break between long work sessions? Just flip it around, and you’re all set to dominate your opponents…or build the perfect farm, whichever works.
This versatility brings full support for the XG Mobile family of external GPUs as well. The laptop boasts an alternative configuration with an AMD Radeon RX 6850M XT eGPU, allowing users to take the Flow X16 out for on-the-go productivity, and then plug it back into the laptop at the comfort of their workspace for maximum power. The 12GB GRRD6 VRAM adds dedicated bandwidth, but the device can actually double up as an integrated I/O hub, granting access to HDMI, USB, display, and Ethernet ports for more connectivity options.
The ROG Flow X16 (GV601) offers a two-in-one solution for both work and play, with no compromise on performance, versatility, and visual prowess. It’s now available at the ROG Experience Store Bugis, ASUS Online Store, and all authorised retailers in Singapore from S$3,998, and will retail at S$6,298 for the eGPU – XG Mobile iteration.
