The Boys Spin-Off Loses Two Lead Stars

Updates on the The Boys spin-off have been sparse but the latest news to come out of the anticipated Amazon Prime series is that lead stars Aimee Carrero and Shane Paul McGhie have both made the decision to exit the show.

According to Deadline, their departure was due to the long process of getting the spin-off into production. The actors were attached to the project for over a year and likely had to reject other acting opportunities. Project changes were also cited as a factor for their exit.

The untitled The Boys spinoff is set at America’s only college exclusively for young adult superheroes run by Vought International. Described as an irreverent and R-rated series, it will explore the lives of hormonal and competitive superheroes who will put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities. The series is framed as part college show, part Hunger Games and of course, part The Boys with all the heart, satire and raunch.

The project, originally written by The Boys executive producer Craig Rosenberg, cast its young leads, including Carrer, McGhie, Jaz Sinclair and Lizze Broadway last year. Several months later, in September 2021, the spinoff received a series greenlight, with Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters coming on board as showrunners.
