Terry Crews Petitions Himself For The Role Of King Triton In Disney’s Little Mermaid Remake

Halle Bailey made waves on the internet following the announcement of her being cast for the role of Ariel in Disney’s live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid. Though the role of Ariel has already been set, the all-important role of King Triton, Ariel’s father and ruler of the seven seas, is still very much open and it seems one star is particularly keen on nabbing that role for himself.

Brooklyn Nine Nine’s Terry Crews recently shared some hilarious fan art featuring his upper body being photoshopped onto King Triton’s fish tails on his Twitter. His fans not only seem to like this idea, they have also actively joined Crews in petitioning Disney to cast the former NFL player turned actor for the role of Ariel’s father.

Even artists like BossLogic have stepped in, offering their take on what Terry Crews as King Triton could look like.

Aside from Crews, other popular candidates for the role of King Triton includes Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Idris Elba, and even Samuel L. Jackson himself.

It remains to be seen who Disney feel is best to play King Triton. Meanwhile, it has been reported that Melissa McCarthy is currently in talks with the studio to play the evil sea witch, Ursula. We expect to get a more well-rounded casting list sometime later this year, maybe during Disney’s D23 Expo next month.

The Little Mermaid is not scheduled to start productions till 2020, but in the meantime, there are other live-action remakes for you to sink your teeth into, such as The Lion King and Mulan
