Studio Ghibli’s ‘Howl’s Moving Castle’ 3D Puzzle Doubles As Fantastical Stationery Holder

Here’s a neat little challenge for those seeking to get their puzzle fix. The Howl’s Moving Castle ‘ki-gu-mi’ Howl’s Castle Colour Version is the newest, hottest toy for fans and builders alike, taking the form of a three-dimensional wooden puzzle that can be assembled without glue or cutters.

It won’t be an easy undertaking, requiring eight to nine hours to assemble, but the end product is sure to be worth the hard work. Built on the concept of “make”, “decorate”, and “use”, this puzzle hailing from Studio Ghibli’s Donguri Kyuwakoku chain of merchandise stores is sold as a flat pack, and will stand 146 millimetres in height and 197 millimetres in width when completed.

That’s not all it has to offer, however. Apart from a display piece, it also doubles up as a stationery holder, with the grooves in the head and the chimneys proving handy for storing name cards and pens respectively. There’s a lot more detail to work with this time — the original iteration debuted only with plain plywood a few years ago — which leaves the users with more creative leeway to choose how to store their stationery in and on the castle.

The Howl’s Moving Castle ki-gu-mi is available at Donguri Kyowakoku stores and online for 17,600 yen (US$122.06 / S$166.67). Unfortunately, it’s currently out on stock on the website, so a physical purchase would be your best shot for now.
