Steam Gets Built-In Game Recording Feature

In a move long-awaited by gamers, you can finally record your game playthroughs from Steam itself instead of using third-party apps, as Valve announced a new game recording feature that is currently in beta testing.

The new feature works with any game and is Steam Deck verified, so you can record your games on the go. Switch between two recording modes, letting Steam automatically record your game or pressing a hotkey, and you can even trim your videos with the new software after they are recorded.

And suppose you forget what happened on your last playthrough. In that case, the timeline and event marker feature will automatically generate markers as relevant game events happen, when you take a screenshot. You can manually add markers or add notes to Background Recordings.

What’s unique about the in-game recording feature is that it works with non-Steam games, as long as it’s able to allow the Steam Overlay to run, the gameplay can be recorded. The feature is currently accessible in a beta version by going to Steam’s settings and finding the beta update from the interface menu.

Steam in-game recording is a welcome update, and we hope it lives up to its description.
