Stay For Two Post-Credits Scenes In ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

The Guardians of the Galaxy are no more. Long live the Guardians!

If you’ve caught the third outing of James Gunn’s swansong to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s all right if you’re feeling sad. Gunn’s take on the rag-tag team of thieves, mercenaries and villains turned do-gooders has provided a refreshing take on the superhero genre, and the final chapter is both captivating and a little sad.

After all, Gunn, the current head of rival DC Studios and director of the upcoming Superman reboot, is done with Marvel, and franchise stars including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista have indicated that they are done with their MCU roles after this. Or are they?

And you know the drill – stay behind after the credits start rolling to get your answer. The MCU loves its post-credit scenes and Gunn, while done with his Guardians trilogy, has turned these stingers into an art, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has two that you need to stay behind for.

First Post-Credits

The first one sees the newly assembled Guardians in action, led by their new leader and Captain, Rocket Racoon. That’s right – the final film establishes that Rocket is indeed a raccoon and the walking, talking, gun-toting creature has embraced it. Along with him are Kraglin (Sean Gunn), Adam Warlock (Will Poulter), Groot (Vin Diesel) and a young, white-haired girl, Phyla (Kai Zen).

Guardians of the Galaxy

The addition of Adam to the Guardians isn’t surprising, following the events of this third film, and Kraglin deserves some love, but who is Phyla? In the film, she is one of the members of a new race created by the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji) but to comic book fans, she is much more.

Phyla-Vell is the daughter of superhero Mar-Vell, more popularly known as the original Captain Marvel, and she has also taken on the mantle of Quasar and Captain Marvel in the comics. She is also the sister of Genis-Vell, who has also taken on the role of Captain Marvel and Photon in the comics.

At one point in time, she was the owner of the Quantum Bands, which in the MCU, work very similarly to Aisha’s Bangle worn by Ms Marvel. We can only speculate what links the Guardians and the Marvels have in the MCU, but the introduction of more cosmic beings in this film, alongside Adam Warlock, definitely amps up the power levels of our superhero team.

Second Post-Credits

Peter Quill aka Star-Lord is back on Earth, and living with his grandfather. This goes in line with the expected retirement of the character, as Pratt has indicated that it seems weird to continue the role without Gunn. But the simple breakfast scene between both men ends with the line, ‘The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return’.

Guardians of the Galaxy

Well, having a Guardian on Earth isn’t necessarily a bad thing, and it just means that we can see Quill pop up sometime in the future, and if not Quill, there can always be a new Star-Lord.
