Star Wars: The Force Awakens in Singapore

This is but just the start of the Star Wars hype train and it appears that many Star Wars fans in Singapore stayed awake just to catch the simulcast of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I, for one, was questioning my judgement for having gone for the screening when there was work the next day. Was I dead tired? Sure I was. Was it worth it? Hell yeah!

Vader holds a small bowl. It’s meant for all the lucky draw slips to be placed in much later. I couldn’t help but think this would be a great ornament to have at home for the keys.

There weren’t many folks around at this time. Guess they had a better measure of time than I.

2300 – Plenty of free time? Take more pictures!

There’s one thing I really love about fan events would be the endless amount of photo opportunities. A great preview of what to expect on May the 4th.

It is one thing to dress up like your favourite character and it’s another to actually live and breathe the role. The kid below here, aptly named Luke, has it in spades.

Great pose kid!

It was also around this period that the main bulk of the crowd started streaming in. Frankly, I was surprised at the turn out. Actually, who am I kidding – It’s Star Wars guys!

Security was tight. PAPERS PLEASE!

Everyone who attended the event walked away with awesome swag of which, the highlight was an embossed Star Wars celebration poster.

What’s a Star Wars event without a queue

At this point, everything was a blur to me. As I settled into my seat, it was a fight against sleep. There was over an hour to go and somehow time sped up to this –

It felt like the longest 5 minutes of my life.

Never come between an angry Jedi / Sith fan and his teaser

The hype was pretty real! Just a few moments more!

0100 – The Panel

My biggest takeaway from this was the reveal that BB-8 was a real functioning prop and not the CG stuff that’s so prevalent in movies these days. How does his head stay on all the way?

It just goes to show that old school is still where it’s at.

After a great balancing act to both placate fans both old and new, we finally were able to see the teaser. What more could I possible add here that has not already been said.

It’s been a good ten years since the last Star Wars movie and the hype train has only just left the station.

Bonus pic if you made it this far! I’m pretty sure this was pre-planned!
